Introduction to Homoeopathy

Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843),The founder of homoeopathy, Born in Germany, a physician, chemist, translator and researcher. In his day the practice of medicine was crude and often fraught with horrendous side effects. There was often doubt whether the people died of the disease or the treatment and sometimes I wonder if anything has changed in todays treatments. While travelled to South America he observed the Peruvian Indians using the shavings of the bark of a tree (later found to be rich in quinine – still used today for malaria) which quickly cured locals of symptoms he recognised as malaria.  Thereafter he experimented with different doses and other substances and dilutions and discovered the first principle of Homoeopathy ‘that which causes disease also cures it’.

What is Homoeopathy?

I think the highest ideal of any therapy is to restore balance, enhance and maintain health, in the most permanent, non invasive way, Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine which means we treat the whole person as an individual rather than just look at the disease picture. We regard this as an integrated system, since all are aspects of the whole person. “Dis-ease” is just a breakdown in energy flow that can in time affect us adversely. Homoeopathic remedies stimulate the immune system, enhancing the body’s natural ability towards self healing, balance and “ease”.
